Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Finding a community within one’s professional network is incredibly important, especially for early career scientists. Prior to the pandemic, this community was often found through in-person meetings, conferences, and lab visits. During the global pandemic, we (the Entomological Society of America) found new ways to interact virtually, and this offered new opportunities for members of the society which had previously struggled to include in-person travel into their personal and professional lives. Moving forward, as many events are in-person again, we should strive to create a hybrid way of communicating that benefits those that can travel and those that cannot.
