ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profile: Tulasviridae 2023. Journal of General Virology. 104:12. 2023. https://doi.org/10.1099/jgv.0.001933. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1099/jgv.0.001933 Interpretive Summary: Discovery and characterization of new virus species require regular additions and revisions to virus taxonomy to keep pace with the science. Six new families have been created in the order Bunyavirales to accommodate these novel viruses. This article presents a timely update on the family Tulasviridae, whose member viruses have recently been found in fungi, for virologists in research and regulatory environments. Technical Abstract: Tulasviridae is a family of ambisense RNA viruses with genomes of ~12.2 kb that have been found in fungi. The genome of tulasvirids is non-segmented and contains three open reading frames (ORFs) encoding a nucleoprotein, a large protein containing an RNA-directed RNA polymerase domain, and a protein of unknown function. This article presents an updated taxonomy of the order Bunyavirales as now accepted by the ICTV. |
