Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This presentation provides an overview of the steps involved in pursuing a research career and a brief description of some example projects of interest to future healthcare practitioners. The research the Hess lab pursues focuses on identifying and assessing strategies that might help Americans meet the dietary recommendations outlined in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and uses a wide range of methodologies including randomized controlled trials, cross-sectional studies, and food pattern modeling studies, among others. This research also covered some additional roles of being a researcher including involvement in professional organizations, research publications and presentations, project management, and leadership.
