Interpretive Summary: California is the largest producer of figs in the U.S. with about 30,000 metric tons annually. We describe and illustrate the caterpillar and pupae of a species discovered feeding on figs in the Sacramento Valley. This is the first report of the host (figs) for this moth species and the first description of the caterpillar and pupae. This study will be of interest to farmers, extension agents, and biologists.

Technical Abstract: This is the first report of Euzophera vinnulella Neunzig (Pyralidae: Phycitinae) in association with fig, Ficus caricae (Moraceae), trees in northern California. We describe the immature stages, and provide images of the larva, pupal exoskeleton, and adult male genitalia from the reared adults.
