Technical Abstract: Our society's dependence on single-use plastics made from petroleum is harmful to the environment and unsustainable. The Bioproducts Research Unit at the USDA Western Regional Research Center has several projects underway that aim to convert agricultural byproducts and food coproducts into valuable bioproducts that can replace traditional plastics. This presentation will provide an overview of our research, with a focus on using coproducts from the dairy processing industry.
