Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Microbiome and Metabolism Research Unit (MMRU) conducts innovative research, training, and engagement to advance understanding of how parental-child diet, nutrition, and physical activity optimize development. Our vision is to enhance parental and child health through the science of food, nutrition, and physical activity. To address our research questions, scientists at MMRU leverage clinical studies, animal models, in vitro cell culture and statistical modeling. Germ-free mouse model is one of the tools used in our research. Data from two different microbiota studies leveraging the germ-free mouse model will be discussed. This model helped us demonstrate the role of microbiota on gut health and immune response.
