Interpretive Summary: Histophilus somni is typically isolated as a commensal of bovine and ovine mucus membranes such as the nasal passage, prepuce, and vagina. Although H. somni is an important pathogen in the bovine respiratory disease complex, the mechanisms that cause its virulence are still poorly understood. In order to understand its virulence determinants, a complete genome sequencing was carried out on an isolate recovered from pneumonic calf lungs. The gene arrangement and virulent genes of the new isolate were very similar to those of H. somni isolate 2338.

Technical Abstract: Histophilus somni is an important causative agent of bovine respiratory disease complex. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of a Histophilus somni strain 91, which was isolated from a pneumonic lung tissue sample collected from a beef calf.
