Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: NCA5 Appendix 4- Indicators provides NCA5 with foundational science for characterizing observed climate-relatedchanges across regions and sectors. Indicators are used to track climate-related conditions, trends,and impacts that affect people and ecosystems, allowing communities to assess risks and makeinformed response and adaptation decisions. The Indicators Appendix includes indicators createdand supported by federal agencies, and content was designed to support the various national andregional chapters in NCA5. The Appendix walks through existing and newly developed indicatorsacross six categories (Atmosphere; Ice, Snow and Water; Ocean and Coastal; Land and Ecosystems ;Health; Adaptation and Mitigation). The AGU community is invited to explore the IndicatorsAppendix as well as the full NCA5—the preeminent source of climate information for the UnitedStates. NCA5 is developed by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and is scheduled for release in late 2023.
