Technical Abstract: Although a small country, Albania is rich in natural monuments. These monuments constitute a great national asset that add values especially for the growth of the tourism. Mediterranean region is considered sensitive to climate change, and the natural monuments may be endangered. In particular, this impact can be critical for natural plant monuments; trees, shrubs or forests. In this study, 721 identified natural monuments of Albania according to the Council of Ministers Degree, no. 303, dated 10.05.2019 were analyzed. The largest number of natural monuments is located in the prefectures of Shkodra, Vlora and Dibra. Nearly 40% of the natural monuments in Albania are of a plant nature. Oak, oriental plane and pine stand out among them. As a criterion for the assessment of climate change, the areas of plant hardiness zones and their change according to the four climate change scenarios presented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change were evaluated. The spatial distribution and extent of plant hardiness zones are expected to be greatly affected by climate change. The study shows National Monuments and plant species may be most threatened by climate change and provides recommendations to mitigate the negative effects.
