Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Python-based crop water balance modeling tool, pyfao56, offers a flexible framework for estimating evapotranspiration (ET) and soil water depletion (Dr). This presentation highlights the customization of pyfao56 for use at the USDA-ARS Limited Irrigation Research Farm (LIRF) in Greeley, Colorado. Key adaptations include automated data integration from on-site weather stations, Google Sheets, and soil water databases, as well as dynamic tools for evaluating field-specific irrigation practices. Using data from 2023 and 2024 field trials, we demonstrate how these customizations enable efficient irrigation scheduling and water management. Current and future needs for customization are also discussed. This case study underscores pyfao56's versatility for developing tailored workflows to meet diverse research and management needs.
