On field soil carbon measurement [abstract]. UT Arlington Mathposium 2024 Conference. Nov. 15-16, 2024, Arlington, TX. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The invention is a method and device for improving the INS system for non-invasive measurement of soil Carbon such that it would generate soil carbon distribution maps. The device is a portable field unit using a neutron generator positioned above the surface of the material of interest to generate fast neutrons that penetrate soil. Modifications of the existing equipment allows for using this system in the scanning mode for mapping of soil. The GPS device and software required to simultaneously acquire gamma signals and geographical positions during scanning operations were added to an existing measurement system. The reliability of soil carbon measurements in the scanning mode has been demonstrated to agree with results acquired from stationary measurement at designated points in the field. Using the acquired data, a soil carbon distribution map can be constructed utilizing various software. |
