It causes neonatal mortality and abortion in livestock and paralysis and death in dogs. Its life cycle and sources of infection are unknown. It has been found in North America, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Asia. Scientists at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center and the National University, Costa Rica report for the first time neosporosis in a dog from Costa Rica. This report indicates that the definitive host for Neospora caninum is also present in Central America. Technical Abstract: Clinical neosporosis and toxoplasmosis are reported in 2 separate adult dogs from Costa Rica. |
