The etiology has been investigated and known viral agents have been eliminated as initiators or cofactors in the condition. The report will be of value to practicing veterinarians and their clients in the process of arriving at a differential diagnosis, identifying the cause of the condition, and formulating possible approache to avoiding further losses. Technical Abstract: This case report describes the clinical and pathological features of generalized congenital hemangiomatosis in a five-month-old limousin heifer. An investigation was undertaken in an attempt to determine the etiology and progression of the condition. The heifer was euthanized after a month long observation period. At necropsy, lesions were found dispersed throughout the skin and subcutaneous tissues, the mesentery, the pulmonary parenchyma the right kidney, the umbilicus, over the right jugular groove, in the serosa of the small intestine, the pericardial sac, both renal capsules, and the broad ligament of the uterus. Histologically the lesions could be divided into three categories but all were within the broad classification of hemangioma. To our knowledge, this case is the oldest calf on record with generalized congenital hemangiomatosis. |
