Publication Type: Peer Reviewed Journal Publication Acceptance Date: 7/10/1994 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Previous research had shown that Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was applicable in predicting separately the nutritive value of the forage diet of grazing animals for either temperate grasses or for a subtropical grass. This research examined the potential of NIRS for estimating the nutritive value when calibrated using a combined data set of temperate and subtropical grasses. Although the error of calibration increased some when predicting nutritive value using the broad based equation, the results were acceptable. This means that one calibration equation can be used to predict the nutritive value of the forage diet from a wide range of forage species. This greatly simplifies the process as opposed to using a different calibration for each forage species tested. Technical Abstract: none |
