Interpretive Summary: In some applications, it wold be desirable to use a variable-speed pump to maintain a relatively constant water level in a sump or pond without frequent cycling. The pumping rate must approximate the inflow rate to the sump. A float-activated, belt-drive, variable-speed pump is described that can maintain a nearly constant water level in a drain or tailwater sump. The pump changes speed automatically so that discharge rate matches the inflow rate to the sump. The pumping plant provides an alternative to cycling pumps.
