Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: It has been established that ribosomal rRNA genes present at the different nucleolar organizing (NOR) loci in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. Cm Thell.) are expressed at various levels and that some loci show full or partial dominance over others. The degree of dominance appears to depend on the genetic background. There appears to be a dosage compensation system operating which keeps the rRNA gene activity relativity constant regardles of the range of rRNA genes present. There is an indication that NOR loci can show different expression levels when present in the same genetic background.
