Technical Abstract: Vertex is an early maturity group II soybean variety released by the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center-Ohio State University (OARDC-OSU) in 1993 because of the superior yield performance and greater lodging resistance than current varieties of similar maturity. It has purple flowers, grey pubescence, brown pods and dull yellow seed coats with buff hila. Vertex has the Rps1-K gene for resistance to phytophthora root rot. Breeder seed will be maintained by OARDC-OSU with the cooperation of Ohio Foundation Seed, Inc. Protection for Vertex under the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act is pending.
