Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 11/14/1995 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This study was designed to evaluate the cell-mediated responses of goats vaccinated with either Brucella melitensis strains 201 (S201) or 16M (S16M). It also evaluated lymphocyte proliferative responses to S16M and B. abortus strain RB51 (SRB51) proteins separated by 1D-PAGE. At 11 weeks post-inoculation (PI), peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from S201-vaccinated goats demonstrated significantly higher proliferation (P<0.05) in response to irradiated S16M, S201, or SRB51 bacteria when compared to PBMC isolated from S16M-vaccinated or non-vaccinated goats. PBMC isolated at 11 weeks PI from 3 S201- and 1 S16M-vaccinated goats demonstrated proliferative responses to 1D-PAGE separated S16M or SRB51 proteins within fractions containing proteins with masses of less than 18 kDa. At 18 weeks PI, supramammary lymph node cells from S16M- and S201-vaccinated goats demonstrated proliferative responses to SRB51 1D-PAGE- separated proteins with masses of less than 32 kDa. This study indicates that S201-vaccinated goats demonstrate cell-mediated responses earlier than S16M-vaccinated goats. Data also suggest that some of the immunodominant proteins of B. melitensis recognized by S16M or S201-vaccinated goats may be expressed by B. abortus strain RB51. |
