Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Fusarium head blight (FHB) in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) caused by Fusarium spp. has been reported worldwide. The epidemics have resulted in serious loss in yield and grain quality. FHB is harmful for human health and livestock if consumed. Presently, resistance must be assessed by evaluating adult plants which is space and time consuming; therefore, seedling screenings have been evaluated. The seedling screens evaluated were percentage of germination and seedling height. A positive correlation has been observed between germination and reaction to FHB, but no relationship was found with plant height. The seedling response to FHB was also correlated to inoculated adult plants from the greenhouse and field, and actual epidemic results in natural conditions. The seedling results obtained show some correlation with disease of these plants.
