Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The mission of the Jornada Experimental Range is to produce new knowledge of ecosystem processes for development of sustainable technologies for bioremediation and management of desert rangelands. We are focusing on technologies that are knowledge based and therefore readily available to land managers having diverse capital outlays and economic constraints. Among our current efforts is the development of passive methods for reseeding desert rangelands with native plant species. To date we have examined several methods for seed dispersal into areas not currently colonized by desired reseeding species (primary dispersal). These methods predominately employ use of animals and natural water flows. Research directed toward understanding ecological processes and their application is ongoing. In time we hope to develop an array of technologies that will be widely available and easily accessible to land managers of arid and semi- arid environments.
