Technical Abstract: Since its putative arrival in Texas during the spring of 1986, the Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia) has increased its range to include all of the seventeen western U.S. states and three Canadian provinces and has caused serious economic damage to the U.S. wheat and barley industries. Research programs directed toward the control and management of D. noxia populations sin North America have produced much information on the biology of D. noxia in North America. Herein we attempt to present a general overview of the biology of D. noxia based on the North American research experience. Aspects of its life history, reproductive habit, population dynamics, overwintering and oversummering biology, host-plant interactions, biotypic diversity, and its role as a virus vector are presented.
