Extent of yield enhancement is dependent upon temperature, type of starch, and kind of complexant. Highest yields are generally attained by use of low temperature (15-25 deg C) and highly branched starches. At 25 deg C and pH 7, with cyclodecanone as complexant, 91-92% yields of beta-CD are obtainable from amylopectin, waxy maize starch, and tapioca starch. Yields of beta-CD from potato, rice, wheat, oat, and ordinary corn starch are in the range of 81-87%. At 15 deg C with 1-decanol as complexant, amylopectin can be converted into alpha-CD in 84% yield. At 40 deg C with cyclotridecanone, a 71% conversion of amylopectin into gamma-CD is attainable. |
