Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The BamHI-E fragment of Marek's disease virus genomic DNA contains an open reading timeframe (ORF) of 1,923 base pairs which is homologous to UL32 of herpes simplex virus type 1. Downstream of MDV UL32h, another ORF was identified as a homolog of HSV-1 UL31. Northern blot analysis revealed that MDV UL32h was co-transcribed with UL31h. The primary translation product of UL32h is predicted to be comprised of 641 amino acids with a calculated molecular weight of 71.5 kDa, as compared with the apparent molecular weight of 82.2 kDa in immunoprecipitation studies of MDV-infected cells using antiserum against trpE fusion protein. Hydrophobicity analysis of gp82 identified multiple domains that might interact with or span the membrane several times. The protein belongs to a class of membrane glycoprotein.
