Interpretive Summary: Many species of Pyraloid moths are a serious pest of crops in the U.S. where they cause million of dollars of damage each year. One such moth is Omiodes indicate. The neotropical relatives of Omiodes indicata, a worldwide pest of bean crops are very poorly known. Omiodes is redefinded using many characters that were unknown when the name was proposed. Five new species are recognized. Ten species are shown to have been described previosuly and are junior synonyms, and one species was incorrectly associated with another genus. Nine species do not belong in Omiodes, but they are temporarily retained in the genus until addditional research on their classification is completed. A key is provided for the identification of the species of Omiodes in Costa Rica. The research is necessary for the production of a handbook to the identification of the pyraloid moths of Costa Rica and involves bibliographic and morphological studies on the moth fauna of the Western Hemisphere. Regulatory agency personnel need this information because species of this genus are difficult to identify.

Technical Abstract: Omiodes Guenee is redescribed and nineteen Costa Rican species are reviewed. Five new species are described, and ten new synonymies and one new combination are recognized. Nine species do not belong in Omiodes, but are temporarily retained in Omiodes. A key is provided for the identification of the species of Omiodes in Costa Rica.
