This book is an extensive review of the literature in the area of possible effects of elevated atmospheric CO2 on world food production. The author attempts to take an even handed view of this controversial issue and present an overview of the present state of knowledge in regards to the potentials of continued elevations of atmospheric CO2 concentration on world food production. In this regard, the author addresses the feasible impacts of elevated CO2 on climate, crop production, and their potential interactions. This book is organized in a manner that should make it valuable as a reference book. Each chapter is written so that sufficient information is provided as to not depend on previous chapters for understanding of the material. One limitation of this book as a reference book is that it is extensively text, containing only five tables, and with no information being summarized in figure form. The book does, however, contain extensive literature citations and includes an comprehensive subject index (13 pages) which should make this book a good reference resource for elevated atmospheric CO2 effects on world food production. |
