The species are S. alopecuroideum (2n = 30), S. baldwinii (2n = 30), S. brevibarbe var. brevibarbe (2n = 60), S. brevibarbe var. contortum (2n = 60), S. coarctatum (2n = 60), and S. giganteum (2n = 30, 60, and 90). The cytotypes of S. giganteum overlap in gross morphology. Our objectives were to study the cytology of crosses of elite sugarcane x NA Saccharum spp., and examine the NA species for RAPD-PCR polymorphisms and potential species-specific DNA markers. |
