Technical Abstract: The practical implementation of Site-Specific Crop Management (SSCM) concepts is dependent on modern computer systems to collect, manage, and interpret the vast quantities of data required to identify the individual contributions and interactions of a range of factors which affect yields. Additional sensors are needed to sense soil and crop variables, to produce the understanding of the variables that affect and limit crop growth. Need for agricultural sensors has expanded the opportunities for agricultural scientists and engineers to contribute to the data collection and analysis capabilities that can bring U.S. agricultural productivity to a new level.
