Interpretive Summary: We describe a statistical test for quantifying the change in field scale salinity conditions over time. This testing procedure is derived from the development of field specific multiple linear regression (MLR) models, which represents a modeling approach that has been successfully used to predict soil salinity levels from electromagnetic induction (EM) survey data. The statistical formulas for employing the test are given, and documentation of the testing approach is shown using survey and salinity data from two field data sets. The test approach makes extensive use of the procedures developed in Lesch et al., 1995a,b, Water Resources Research, 31: 373-386, and 386-398.

Technical Abstract: We describe a statistical test for quantifying the change in field scale salinity conditions over time. This testing procedure is derived from the development of field specific multiple linear regression (MLR) models, which represents a modeling approach that has been successfully used to predict soil salinity levels from electromagnetic induction (EM) survey data. Both the testing procedure and modeling approach are demonstrated on two EM survey /soil salinity data sets which were collected over multiple points in time from within the saline irrigation district of Flumen, Spain. Some alternative testing procedures are also reviewed and discussed.
