In many of these applications, knowledge of the sorption and transport of water and gases such as oxygen is essential. Although the mechanical properties and biodegradation of these materials have been widely studied, few data are available on their sorption and permeability properties. This talk will discuss sorption and permeability properties of granular-filled composites and coated starch foams. Emphasis will be placed on correlating properties with starch content and polymer structure. Implications of the sorption and permeability properties on end-use applications will also be discussed. |
