Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This book chapter covers current information on an important vascular disease of soybean called brown stem rot. This disease is caused by a fungal pathogen known as Phialophora gregata. Current information on the symptoms of the disease on soybean plants, the fungal pathogen, suggested methods for isolating the fungus from diseased plants, methods for determining the amount of disease individuals of the fungal pathogen cause on soybean plants, and current information listing sources of soybean plant resistance to the fungal pathogen are discussed. This current information should be very useful to soybean plant pathologists and soybean geneticists.
