Photographic monitoring of designated leaf regions, and marking individual lesions, allowed initial disease lesion foci to be determined, and progress of lesion enlargement throughout the season, to be visualized. Graphic images of symptom phenotypes from different seasons and locations could assist pathologists, breeders, and geneticists in recognizing genotype specific host-pathogen interactions. Attribution of specific symptom phenotypes to individual components of resistance will provide a fuller understanding of host-pathogen interactions in maize to Cercospora zeae-maydis. |
