Such equipment has been constructed in our laboratory for conducting "green" chemistry using both CO2 and water as solvents. Included in this presentation are descriptions and utilization of a batch and dynamic flow system for studying the hydrolysis of vegetable oils at temperatures and pressures ranging from 250-375 deg C and 100-400 atm. In addition, modification of a commercial view cell to study the density and phase behavior of water/oil systems is described, along with reconfiguration of a commercially available SC-CO2 based extractor for operation under subcritical water conditions up to 300 deg C and 425 atm). Examples will be given of utilizing the above equipment in process development studies, reaction chemistry, and chemical analysis. |
