Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 8/13/1997 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Twenty samples of rough rice infected with Fusarium sheath rot disease and 15 F. proliferatum cultures obtained from these samples were collected during the 1995 harvest season from Arkansas and Texas. All Fusarium cultures were single-spored and grown on rice and tested for the production of fumonisins (FB1, FB2, etc.) and moniliformin (MON). Seven of the 15 cultures produced >50 ppm FB1 ranging from 80-230 ppm. In these seven cultures, the range of FB2 was 5-47 ppm with those producing the highest concentrations of FB1 also producing the highest concentration of FB2. Eleven cultures produced MON >100 ppm with a range of 188-6733 ppm. Eight of the 20 rough rice samples obtained from the field were positive for FB1 in the range 2.2-5.2 ppm. Nine samples were positive for MON in the range 2-8 ppm. Other derivatives of fumonisins, such as FA1, FA2 and PHFB1, were identified in culture extracts of F. proliferatum by CF/FAB/MS. |
