Both modified-live virus and inactivated virus vaccines are used routinely. Recently, bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) has been reclassified into two antigenically distinct species of virus. The two viral species share some antigenic properties, induce the same disease processes, and are widespread throughout the United States. Recognition o separate species of BVDV has stirred debate on efficacy of current vaccines, on the need for new vaccines, and on desirable attributes of BVD vaccines in general. This presentation will attempt to address those topics. |
