Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Biological control, as a component of integrated pest management, is reviewed and strategies for use in parasites, predators, and pathogens as biological control agents for insect pests are discussed. The three basic approaches for using these natural enemies are importation, conservation and augmentation. Each of these approaches may be useful in specific situations. In disrupted agroecosystems, such as annual row crops, augmentation by periodic release may be the most viable approach. Biological control in Texas is addressed as an introduction to some of the more detailed papers that follow.
