The paper indicated that dietary protein increases urinary calcium and the risk of osteoporosis. The letter cites recent published research at the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center which indicated that increasing consumption of protein from meat had dno effect on calcium retention or excretion. This and other research argu against the need to reduce protein intake for patients at risk of osteoporosis. |
