Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Genetic maps are valuable tools in determining the genomic distribution of economically important quantitative trait loci (QTL) in crops. A base map of 252 markers was previously established using a 'Kanota'/'Ogle' recombinant inbred (RI) population. This map has been used to initiate QTL studies in cultivated, hexaploid oat. Our objective was to extend these QTL studies by first developing a skeletal map of an Ogle/'TAM 0-301' RI population using the Kanota/Ogle base map as a guide. The presented map features previously established markers, such as isozymes and RFLPs, as well as newly mapped PCR-based markers. With this new mapping information, QTL analyses will be conducted, and this will broaden our knowledge of QTL distribution in oat. This additional knowledge will be useful to conventional oat breeding programs and to the design of marker-assisted oat enhancement strategies.
