Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 9/1/1997 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Humic acids (HAs) of the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) collection have been tested with Creeping Bentgrass (cv. Providence) in a growth chamber experiment. The micro-systems were constructed with two layers of tissue culture plates filled with sand on the top, and a filter paper wick connected to the bottom. Preliminary results showed that soil and leonardite HAs have increased root length compared with a fertilized control without HA, while peat and leonardite HAs have increased root dry weight under our experimental conditions. There was no difference in either root length or dry weight for the water HA treatments. HA treatments showed reduced shoot dry weight. Additional experiments were carried out by a modified micro-systems technique and in large scale sand buckets in the greenhouse with some commercially available organic amendments. The comparisons of IHSS samples with other soil organic amendments will be discussed. |
