Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Juvenile Oreochromis niloticus weighing between 5 and 10 grams were fed one of five extruded experimental diets or Purina #5144 in triplicate for 12 weeks. Four of five experimental diets contained fish meal, one contained full-fat soy, three contained soy grits, and all contained corn gluten meal and high-lysine corn. The diet containing full-fat soy and the diet containing 28% soy grits fed to tilapia gave equal weight gain (P>0.05) to the commercial control. The diet containing full-fat soy fed to tilapia resulted in same feed conversion ratio (P>0.05) as the commercial control. The 32% protein diet and the diet containing full-fat soy fed to tilapia gave same protein efficiency ratio (P>0.05) as the commercial control. Tilapia fed the remaining diets resulted in less favorable weight gain, feed conversion ratio, or protein efficiency ratio.
