Technical Abstract: Because of the extraordinary potential impact of active oxygen (AO) on several aspects plant/physiology, it is important that we be aware of its existence as well as to better understand the cellular mechanisms that govern its metabolism. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a critical review and overall picture regarding the production and role of AO during plant interactions and to comment on the future direction and needs in AO research. In order to accomplish this, we divided the chapter into healthy and stressed AO metabolism. We focused on aspects that are unique to plants.
