In cities where a lot of wood wastes are generated, urban dwellers can help a lot in conserving the forest resources through composting, reusing, and recycling. Technical Abstract: Wood and paper products are the largest component of the 200 million tons of solid waste generated each year. Only 25% of the wood and paper waste is recycled. Therefore, incresing the recycling efforts could lead to conservation of our forests, cleaner environment, and more sustainable cities. By recycling our grass clippings, leaves, tree trimmings, and other wood wastes via composting or some other process, we shall have done our part in reconnecting the nutrient cycle that has been and continues to be short-circuited in urban forest ecosystems. |
