Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: 78 recombinant inbred lines from a cross between Clark's Cream and NY-6432-18 were grown at four locations near Ithaca NY. Test weight, and kernel weight were determined on cleaned grain. Kernel texture was evaluated from six locations using NIR. Video image analysis (VIA) was used to determine grain length, width, perimeter and area. 128 molecular marker loci were also determined for this population. Transgressive segregation existed for most kernel traits. VIA traits were correlated among themselves and with kernel weight. Test weight was not correlated with other seed or quality traits. Heritabilities were high. A QTL influencing several kernel traits but not test weight was located near cdo718 on chromosome 3L. QTL's associated with kernel traits were associated with markers mapping to chromosomes 1, 2, 5.
