Almost 3,000 predatory arthropods were collected from a 30 acre cotton field and subjected to an ELISA assay employing a monoclonal antibody to eggs of the budworm and bollworm. Eighteen percent of predators, which included a variety of insect and spider taxa, were positive for egg remains. These data will be combined with census data to determine the relative importance of each predator species in suppressing the budworm/bollworm complex. |
