Interpretive Summary: Neosporosis is a newly recognized disease caused by a single-celled parasite, Neospora caninum. It is a major cause of abortion in dairy cattle in several countries including the U.S. Scientists at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center and the University in Barcelona, Spain report Neospora-associated abortion in cattle from Spain for the first time. These results will be of interest to veterinarians, pathologists, and parasitologists.

Technical Abstract: Neospora caninum tachyzoites were identified in areas of the cerebrum with lesions of nonsuppurative encephalitis in an aborted bovine fetus in Spain.
