Interpretive Summary: Profitable soybean production is dependent upon high yielding, pest resistant cultivars. The soybean cultivar ATHOW was developed and released for production in central Illinois and central Indiana. This cultivar combines high seed yield with resistance to many races of the pathogen that causes a root and stem rot of soybean. Producing this cultivar should contribute to profitable soybean production, especially in areas where root and stem rots reduce soybean yields. The information in this bulletin describes the characteristics of ATHOW soybean and will be useful to extension personnel and soybean producers.

Technical Abstract: Profitable soybean production is dependent upon high yielding, pest resistant cultivars. The soybean cultivar ATHOW was developed and released for production in central Illinois and central Indiana. This cultivar combines high seed yield with resistance to many races of the pathogen that causes Phytophthora root and stem rot of soybean. Athow also has high peroxidase activity in the seed coat, and this enzyme has potential industrial uses. Producing this cultivar should contribute to profitable soybean production, especially in areas where root and stem rots reduce soybean yields.
