Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This article summarized information compiled by diagnosticians from across the Southeastern United States. Information was collected from 1976 to 1995 and put in four tables. The major emphases of the summary were the diseases of the channel catfish. An explanation for the declining number of cases from 1989 to 1995 was given and it was not thought to represent a decline in fish disease problems. The summary gave the incident of particular problems but did not necessarily reflect the overall significance of a given pathogen because information on severity was not collected. Shortcomings in the report, such as why the incidence of a particular disease may be lower than expected, was discussed. Pathogen importance and trends were discussed. Also, discussed were reasons for differences in emphasis placed on certain pathogens by individual fish disease diagnosticians.
