Interpretive Summary: Larvae species of the sawfly family Cephidae are stem and twig borers. Some species are known to cause extensive damage in wheat and other grain crops, in pear and apple orchards, and in berry crops. Based on collections from southeastern Asia, two new species of Janus and new records of species of other genera of these stem and twig borers are recorded. The identity of species and knowledge of their distribution will aid insect identification and save time for APHIS personnel working to help prevent accidental introductions.

Technical Abstract: Asian records are presented for species of the cephid genera Janus, Hartigia, Urosyrista, and Cephus (Hymenoptera: Cephidae). Two new species are described, Janus longicaudus Naito and Smith from Sichuan Province, China, and Janus xanthus Naito and Smith from Xizang Province, China.
