Guayule (Parthenium argentatum Gray) produces a hypoallergenic latex. For guayule to be successful as a new crop, acceptable cultivars are needed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the survival rate and plant height of 29 guayule lines. The lines were transplanted at the Maricopa Agriculture Center on 6 April 95 with 36 cm between plants, using a randomized complete block design and four replications. Plants were counted and surviving plants measured for plant height on 29 Feb 96. Nineteen of the lines had survival not significantly different from the check 1159-1, while two lines G7-14 and G7-15 were significantly taller than 1159-1. These lines should serve as excellent sources of germplasm for cultivar development. |
