Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Cooperative Regional Performance Nursery data are presented and summarized for entries in the 1997 Uniform Early Oat Performance Nursery. The entries included 23 experimental lines from 8 public and 1 private oat breeding programs plus 5 long term check cultivars. The nursery was grown at 12 locations in 12 States. Evaluation of performance of elite lines across the wide range of environments aids the cooperators to identify potential cultivar releases and germplasm for use in new crosses. The nursery mean yield of 118.7 bu/A for 1997 was up 21.5% from the 93.2 bu/A nursery mean yield in 1996. Multiple location data are presented for seed quality and oil contents; for several disease reactions including rusts, smut, and barley yellow dwarf virus; and for various agronomic traits including yield, maturity date, and lodging resistance. The data from the Nursery have been added to the Graingenes web site. Currently posted are summary tables for all traits and location data for yield, test weight, and diseas reactions.
