The objective of this research was to develop an RFLP linkage map using an F1 population of buffelgrass (Pennisetum ciliare (L.) Link syn Cenchrus ciliaris L.) segregating for method of reproduction (apomictic vs sexual) as well as several morphological and forage quality traits. In this study, more than 400 probes from a pistil specific buffelgrass cDNA library were evaluated and combined with previous data from the evaluation of 862 genomic and cDNA probes from rice, sorghum, sugarcane, corn, wheat, oats, johnsongrass, pearl millet, barley, and bermudagrass. Eighty-one percent of the buffelgrass probes and 34% of the probes from the other species were polymorphic. A combined RFLP map was developed using ca. 500 single-dose restriction fragments. |
